Door Panels

Rather than shove these photos onto some other pages where they didn't really belong, I thought I'd do a page just for my various additions to the Miata door panels. Included are the Aerodramatics door cups, some custom speaker rings, and the Mazda factory chrome sill plates. The later seem to actually be stainless steel, but they're usually called "chrome".

The view as you enter Sharka. Just shiny enough, in my opinion.

My plush Sharka mascot rides in the passenger door. Yeah, I'm a huge nerd.

None of the aftermarket sills look this nice. Mine came from a wrecked 94M.

My custom speaker rings came about due to me not liking any of the ones on the market. I decided to make my own, but was slowed when I began looking for rings that might fit. Finally, one day in Home Depot, I ran across the stove ring section. As un-sexy as it sounds, I have polished stove rings on my door panels covering the speakers. The mesh came from Radio Shack cheap metal universal grills. A little JB Weld holds them together and some capscrews hold them on the doors. Like I said, not too sexy, but it looks nice. They're a bit larger than the stock grills and seem to let more sound flow through.

MB Quart speakers visible under the mesh. Yes, those are polished stove rings.
You can see the edge of the speaker and the painted door panel under the mesh.

Speakers are glued and held with polished capscrews.
The stainless capscrews are cut off with a dremel under the panel to stop contact with the door.
