Powertrain Mods

- Currently installed stuff as of 12/01/2005 -

Customized Monsterflow intake
Goodwin Racing's Monsterflow intake modified with an ABS cold air box. No pix of the new one yet. In the meantime, you can check out the 2004 version here.

• Racing Beat 4-1 header w/ TDR heat shield
Arguably the best header on the market for N/A Miatas. Currently the best one for Ubercharged ones too...

• Racing Beat Powerpulse Exhaust
With the Coldside supercharger, my old Enthuza exhaust was too loud. The RB Powerpulse offered the biggest pipe and the most quiet exhaust note, so it replaced the Enthuza.

• 7500 RPM revlimiter
Because it's fun to rev higher.

• Fidanza 8 lb aluminum flywheel
One of the best modifications on the market for an N/A Miata, in my opinion. The less power you have, the more important this mod becomes. Living at 5000 feet above sea level makes the flywheel pretty darn important.

• Koyo 37mm radiator w/ WMD ABS radiator shroud
Enclosing all four sides of the radiator greatly increases efficiency. The Koyo is already pretty darn efficient anyway. It's a shame that this mod is illegal for national SCCA CSP racing. The stock Miata rad is a joke.

• Magnecor 8.5 wires w/ NGK plugs
Standard stuff to get (and keep) the fire lit. Fresh coil packs too...

• WMD clutch clip
Yeah... it's my knock-off version of FM's clutch clip. Those guys at FM are pretty darn smart.

Carbon fiber NACA ducted headlight lid
Arguably the most popular mod on this whole website. The duct sucks in that cold air. Check it out here. If you'd like some instructions on how to make a NACA duct headlight lid of your own, point your browser here.

• Cooling fan switch
Someday, I'll get around to putting up a diagram for this mod. Incredibly simple.

- Stuff that's been removed -

BRP Coldside supercharger
The Coldside was fun, but I ache for either a) more power or b) simplicity. Currently (2006), I'm going for simplicity. Read all about the Coldside on the Coldside install page.

Coldside intake
The Coldside didn't really come with a good intake solution, in my opinion, so I built one. The Coldside intake can be seen here.

Coldside idler system
I was never happy with the original Coldside belt idler/tensioner, so I built my own system based off some plans from the nice posters on the BRP Forum. The WMD Coldside idler system can be seen here.

Coldside intake isolator box
The Coldside supercharger was tired of sucking air tainted by the radiator fans and excessive belt dust. I decided to isolate the intake with a heatshield similar to my N/A intake. The Coldside isolator box can be seen here.

Coldside NACA duct
Along with the intake and isolator, a source of cold air was needed. Check out the old Coldside NACA duct.

• BRP dual-feed fuel rail
Don't ever let anyone tell you to combine teflon tape and fuel. Teflon melts in fuel. JB Weld doesn't.

• 2.5mm overbore throttle body
No longer needed now that I'm not sucking as much air. Made for about a 1 psi increase in blower pressure though!

• Bipes ACU timing controller
Because an ECU without any adjustability is just no fun.

• Jackson racing 4-2-1 header
Not the best one on the market, but at least it was cheap. Removed in favor of upgrading to the RB.

• Enthuza M1 racer exhaust (loud)
Removed due to the incredible volume it achived with the Coldside feeding it. It sure sounded nice before I installed the blower...

• Powercard piggyback w/ Flyin Miata O2 clamp
Not necessary for an N/A car. I was never happy with it anyway...

• Walbro whiny fuel pump
It was loud. It made me run crazy rich. But it was better than my old stocker that died above 5500 rpm...
